Points are assessed against your driving record based on the date of a violation of the ticket, not the date of conviction. If you accumulate in excess of 10 points within an 18-month period, your license will generally be suspended. You may be able to avoid a suspension by taking a defensive driving class. Also, if you are convicted of 3 speeding tickets with dates of violation within an 18-month period, your license will be suspended for 6 months.
